The multi-million pound refurbishment of The Blackwell Grange Hotel continues apace with the opening of the Bruhenny Suite, a fabulous space where guests can enjoy dinner and dancing.

The man bringing his design vision and expertise to the party is Simon Barlett, of Simon Barlett Interiors, Newcastle, who specialises in commercial and leisure spaces. The Bruhenny Suite’s new look is traditional, to mirror the property’s history, but with a modern and funky feel – country house with a twist. The beautiful feature fireplace is a real show-stopper and the space now enjoys natural daylight.

"We wanted to stay away from glass and bright steel, and incorporated warm woods, plaids, and leathers," says Simon. "There’s wood panelling, tin tiles, copper, zinc, distressed metalwork and vintage print mirrors, then we added in two-tone Farrow & Ball paint in contrasting blues. Different Moon plaids bring life into the space for day and night-time use."

The main suite can accommodate up to 180 guests for a dinner and 150 for a dinner dance, while above there’s a newly refurbished bar giving guests a completely private enclosed space to enjoy their wedding or event.

But Simon’s work is far from over – in all, the hotel’s revamp will take five years, inside and out. Landscape gardeners are opening up the long sweeping driveway to make the entrance more dramatic and inviting. The second stage of the interior refurbishment, which will provide more meeting and events space, is due to be completed this month.
